Amodei the AWOL Applicant

A candidate running for office is literally interviewing with voters to get hired (or re-hired) for the widely advertised job. What we have here in Nevada, is a rare instance of a wide open Congressional seat not held down by a well entrenched incumbent.

One of the applicants for this coveted job would be Republican Mark Amodei. This column is not to criticize his stands, but his evasiveness in actually taking stands. If a candidate for any other job refused to answer any questions from an interview panel or even declined to show up to any of the series of interviews, they would simply knock themselves out of the running. The interview panel would then take a look only at the other candidates. Yet in Congress which is detached from the real world, Mark Amodei is somehow considered a front runner for this important position where he would possibly represent 300,000 plus people in an area the size of Wyoming.

He already benefited from a Republican lawsuit that greatly minimized the competition for this coveted job. (Yet he has the gall to air ads against the Chinese for being a dictatorship and their purported plans to take over this country.)  And now that there are only 4 applicants left out of an original 30 for this position, Mark Amodei will only partake in a minimal amount of job interviews with voters and when he does get “interviewed” he ducks and weaves like a world class dodge baller.

For example, take a look at this interview with Jon Ralston on Face to Face where he would not commit to a position on Paul Ryan’s Medicare proposal.

Then there was a town hall debate at the University of Nevada where Mark Amodei was a no show. The 3 other applicants for this job Tim Fasano, Helmuth Lehmann, and Kate Marshall all showed up to make their case to be hired and they all presented themselves quite well.

In addition, applicant Mark Amodei has also skipped out on his job interview with KTVN. The words “Reality Check” must have scared him off the way garlic repels a vampire.

In contrast, the other 3 job applicants did face the music and were interviewed with KTVN and given a “reality check”.

What is most galling is today there are 25 plus excluded candidates from the ballot who sure would not be avoiding interviews, and then being evasive with their stands when they do bother to appear. Amodei not only had the Nevada GOP silence much of his competition, he has also gone to great lengths to silence his own campaign and play it safe.  The Nevada GOP’s idea of democracy is less is more.

If you ran a business, would you actually hire this guy? I will make no bones about it that I am a progressive. However, I would even hire the much more conservative Tim Fasano over Mark Amodei because at least he has been crystal clear on where he stands and does not duck away from the media and debates.

I really have to wonder if a requisite for being a Republican front runner in Nevada is to avoid the media. Last fall Sharron Angle infamously used a decoy to fool the press and slither away. At this point in time Mark Amodei is simply trying to run out the clock. If he is elected one must wonder will he continue to be this evasive with his own constituents.

To the voters of Nevada, is this someone you would hire for the job? All I know is if he actually had confidence in his positions, he would gladly subject them to a “reality check” and have no fear putting up his ideas up against his competitors. He is simply playing not to lose. As a result the voters of Nevada all lose.

  1. Well I must give Mark Amodei credit for consistency. He just skipped out on doing Face to Face with Jon Ralston. Only 2nd time in 10 years someone has done that.

  2. Amodei is not the best-qualified candidate for this congressional seat. He has shown that he can repeat party line and message but he is not a leader, he brings nothing new to the table. Bumble Bumble. He has not shown that he will be the best candidate in any of the debates. Bumble Bumble Amodei. He just bumbles along the party line. I’m not even sure if he really knows what that is.

Are we to believe that the Republicans who bought ads for Amodei aren’t controlling his every move? Is Amodei a member of ALEC? Is he already controlled by big money? Does he go to “training” with the rest of the GOP to learn what they are supposed to say and how to say it and how to write it – so that it affects people in Nevada? Does he leave Nevada to get ALEC training and Washington advice – before he is even elected? Are outsiders controlling Amodei and other GOP candidates and elected officials?

I’m tried of the GOP leaving our state and bringing back “canned” legislation that big money has bought for them. ALEC and NPRI date and law have no place in our state – Nevada can decide for itself. We don’t need a corporation or lawyers or politician in a far away place, telling Nevada what to do. We don’t need outsiders importing information in to our state. We don’t need people like Amodei repeating the “message” they learned outside of Nevada.

Outsiders and those who bow down to them . . . take notice. We are on to your national system of forcing big money ideas down on us. We aren’t going to let any of KOCH brother candidates spew their rhetoric without calling it into question.

If you LOVE those GOP mongers so much – go to them. Leave Nevada alone, we can do our own business. Outsiders – stay out of our business and our state.

  3. Justin, Justin, Justin – at some point you have to face reality. All of the personal vindictiveness which you have allowed to take control of your sanity is just making you look that much more foolish. I especially liked your montage of Hitler – how long did it take you to come up with that one? Too bad you didn’t take Steve Sebelius’ advice and let it go. But since you raised this new unfounded conspiracy theory here’s what you forgot to say:

    * You know that he answered the question on the Ryan bill – in it’s current form he would have opposed it because of the unintended impact it would have on the rural parts of the district as it relates to access to care. I have the transcript if you’d like me to post it for you.

    * There were three televised debates, as well as countless other candidate forums, and other events at which he appeared. No one has said they haven’t seen him everywhere throughout the district. But just in case, you might want to check with Megan the operative hired by the state party to Mark at every event – I’m sure she can give you an exact count. The UNR organizers were told two months ago that we would not be able to attend. Sorry you missed that message.

    * Again, Mark has done countless interviews with local and statewide media throughout this campaign. If you took 10 seconds to run a google search you can confirm that for yourself – or again, check with Megan. The “reality check” segment you’re referring to came on short notice when he was scheduled in another part of the district. This was explained to the reporter and news director – I should know because I had those conversations.

You’re making it hard for me to leave after tomorrow – I’ve had so much fun shooting down every one of your oliver stone-esque conspiracy theories I think I’ll just stick around for a little while longer.

    Have fun tomorrow night!

    • Why is Mark appearing anywhere? He should just forward an e-mail written for him by the Republican Party in Washington DC. OR maybe he should READ from the ALEC script the Chuckie Muth got when he went to his ALEC training recently.

I have not idea why any GOP candidate even makes a pretense they are their own person. They should just get rid of the facade that they talk to their constituency at all and . . . start looking like the big money puppet that they are.

Stay on message. . . don’t meet with people who don’t like you. . . deny appearances you don’t like. . . ALEC puppet, ALEC puppet, ALEC puppet.

And the spoof on Hitler/Amodei was hilarious. Sorry you don’t have a sense of humor. Go get one.

    • Hmmm, Peter I hope you do stick around. Nevada is a great state, and I hope you are learning that. I also hope you learn that an article written by someone named Rex Ricks is not an article written by Justin McAffee. Not so say there is anything wrong with this article. Just clarifying since you seem to attribute it to me.

As for the “Hitler montage,” the point about using Hitler in any context is well taken. However, it serves to show a point that just because Mark Amodei may have said something Hitler said, certainly doesn’t mean they believe the same things. I guess you aren’t smart enough to understand that since you made a commercial which illustrates only that politicians use similar catch phrases, in an attempt to mislead people that Obama, Biden, Reid, and Marshall are all the same person.

I guess that makes Joe Heck and Rick Perry the same person, eh?

Peter, feel free to stop by anytime and make yourself look like the douche you are. My pleasure meeting you.

  5. How can we expect a guy who is AWOL with voters before the election to be accountable and accessible if elected? The answer is ‘we can’t’. No votes for candidates who don’t answer questions from no votes for those who don’t make themselves available. No way Mr Amodei.

    • Amodei did not refuse to interview with Channel 2. He refused to interview with Erin Breen, just as Kate Marshall has refused to interview with Bill Manders on KOH. Your
      facts are twisted and fantasy.
