Is Koch Brothers Money Killing Nevada’s Schools?

Do we REALLY want David and Charles KOCH foundations to try to influence legislation in Nevada that kills public education.

Do we REALLY want a conservative sitting behind a desk in Washington, deciding how we fund our NEVADA public schools? Could there be groups like this? Groups which have a goal of establishing “think tanks” in every state to kill public education?

I keep looking at Nevada’s own NPRI (Nevada Policy Research Institute). Something about it all just doesn’t make sense. Their reports don’t really seem right. They are kind of correct, but slightly off. The reports are wrong in a weird way. ALMOST like someone on the NPRI staff has copied them from another place and then replaced Nevada’s name where Florida or Georgia used to be. This teacher smells. . . plagiarism! Hmmmmmm???

Well, looky here. . . I see NPRI (Nevada Policy Research Institute) on a master list associated with State Policy Network. You find Nevada Policy Research Institute in the long list.

State Policy Network? Really? What do they have to do with Nevada? And why would they be interested in our public schools? These guys seem like billionaires. These guys seem NATIONAL. We are a small potatoes . . . what do they want with Nevada?

Let me see what the mission statement is for the State Policy Network.

SPN comprises 59 affiliated think-tank organizations, including at least one in every state.[2] In addition, other institutions, such as Cato Institute and Heritage Foundation, are associate members.

Looky here at this piece . . . hmmmm. . . I think NPRI might have a problem? VERY INTERESTING! I would question whether they are following these IRS rules:

Although their IRS status prohibits SPN and its member organizations from engaging in electioneering and severely restricts their lobbying activity, both supporters and detractors of SPN have described the network and its member groups as having had significant influence on the political process and legislative action in the states.[2][4]

WHY WOULD A NATIONAL GROUP BE INTERESTED IN ESTABLISHING A BRANCH (aka NPRI) IN LITTLE OLD NEVADA?

If I visit a site that follows the donations to NON-PROFIT groups like NPRI . . . what do I find? Hmmmmm . . .

Castle Rock Foundation . . . $100,000
JM Foundation . . . . . . . . $60,000
Jaquelin Hume Foundation . . .$133,000
Roe Foundation . . . . . . . .$110,000

That’s a lot of money to kill education in Nevada isn’t it? That’s a lot of powerful rich people making it their business – AND it looks like it is a business now, to kill public education in Nevada. These people are a full-on national NON-PROFIT group that employs hundreds of people.

If I click on the link for JM Foundation . . . and look down the list of very wealthy people who donate to this “NON-PROFIT charity” . . .and . . . I see. . .

Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation

I have a very REAL PROBLEM with an EDUCATION HATING BILLIONAIRE or a BUNCH OF BILLIONAIRES coming to our state and developing a NONPROFIT research institute to hurt our public schools. Wouldn’t there be better ways to use money to help students?

THAT IS JUST WRONG! And now it is clear to me that this is not research – this is manufactured lies. No wonder, NONE, of their numbers ever made sense to this teacher of 20+ years.

I think NPRI, which is a branch of the larger group, take templates from other states with supposed numbers from Nevada and attempts to influence public education legislation in my state. In my opinion, I would even say NPRI lobbies directly with it – outside of what they should do with a tax exempt charity status.

I’m from the state of NEVADA. BIG CORPORATE ORGANIZED MONEY needs to stay away from me and my students. I’m really really mad!

KOCH BROTHERS and OTHERS keep your money, your ideas, your union busting crap, and your education killing ideas away from here. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!

  3. Well hopefully somebody will give one of them koch boys a third eye-socket and the other one will see the light. What is really sad is the koch’s use the money from the subsidies their think tanks have finagled for them.

  4. Seemed like they lobbied quite a bit during the legislative session – how do they do that as a NON-PROFIT charity?

They take tax free money from Billionaires – and then somehow turn it into lobbying power? Is that how it is supposed to work?
