Ladies and gentlemen, today I am especially proud to live in Nevada. The Conservative Political Action Committee Western Representation, based in Carson City, garnered the attention of the national media recently for their formal effort to prevent Mitt Romney from becoming the Republican presidential nominee in 2012. Under the “Stop Romney” link on their homepage, a piece of writing appears titled “Exclusive: New Information on Romney views on global warming.”
“Recently, various media outlets have reported on Romney’s statement in which he expressed support for global warming: “I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that.” This despite the last two winters being among the coldest in recent history and the recent evidence revealing pro-global warming scientists to have made fraudulent claims and suppressed contrary views. Romney also called for America to “reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases,” which, will, of course entail massive new government programs despite air quality in the United States being among the cleanest in the world.”
I can’t believe Mitt Romney would have the temerity to admit he believes humans are causing the global environment to warm. Stinking Socialist. The evidence is in. Western Representation writer Steven Baldwin reminds us a couple recent winters were real cold, and those crazy lefty scientists have been spending most of their time “suppressing contrary views” and fabricating data, so the massive avalanche of empirical cross-discipline evidence proving human emissions are warming the planet is apparently crap. Scientists are unionized liars with political agendas. Western Representation, they know climate science.
I am astounded scientifically literate adults (from Nevada no less) can so conspicuously deny the conclusive evidence that human activity is indeed changing our climate, air and water. As a fellow Nevadan I am embarrassed at their noisy lack of scientific literacy. This is not a “theory” yet to be proven. Human caused climate change is not a global left wing conspiracy among widely disparate scientists to foil industry and kill profit. Do the folks at Western Representation trust the science of medicine when they have a head ache or appendicitis? Do they trust the science behind a commercial aircraft or their refrigerator or a deep earth mine or a pilotless drone dropping bombs to protect oil? How about the science behind computers? If they have faith in the science of profit and war, then why do they not trust the world’s geoscientists when they categorically tell us we are changing the climate for the worse through carbon emissions?
I encourage all Western Representation staff members to attend the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union held in San Francisco every December. Legions of scientists have been studying climate change and its causes for decades. They are not undecided.
I would hate to see Mitt Romney become president, but at least he is sane enough to acknowledge the fact that human emissions are warming the planet, and I hope every Republican candidate joins him in acknowledging the fact; but when the obtuse climate change position of a group like Western Representation is on the boston.com website, the sad prospect is: Nevada becomes known as the home of scientific illiterates.
Ps. The time has come to tax pollution in all its forms. Go down the list of poisons in the EPA’s Toxics Release Inventory and charge a local, state and federal tax for each by the pound. The time is past due for a global carbon tax. The price of pollution must be factored into the cost of goods and services, no matter where they are produced.

Living in Reno I had no idea I was so close to their camp of far right extremists. How can such normal looking people agree on such a ridiculous idea, and then form a group? I bet these guys are trying to put creationism in our schools.
I don’t want Romney, Of course, I would like to see the republican congress stop making bills to relieve taxes for the very rich, and make us pay even more. Paying your fair share isn’t socialism.
LOL, oh how the GOP is in trouble. I think we are close to seeing the total collapse of Republican power. How much longer can they dumb down America and get away with it?
Justin,
Pray you are right! We will find out one way or the other in 2012!
